Roles Verdict Jury Plebiscite
Roles Verdict Then Joshua told the people: Worship the Lord, obey him, and always be faithful.
Get rid of the idols
your ancestors worshiped when they lived on the other side of the Euphrates River and in Egypt. But if you dont want to worship the Lord, then choose right now! Will you worship the same idols your ancestors did? Or since youre living on land that once belonged to the Amorites, maybe youll worship their gods.
Roles verdict
I wont. My family and I are going to worship and obey the Lord! The people answered: We could never worship other gods or stop worshiping the Lord. The Lord is our God.
We were slaves in Egypt as our ancestors
had been, but we saw the Lord work miracles to set our people free and to bring us out of Egypt. Even though other nations were all around us, the Lord protected us wherever we went. And when we fought the Amorites and the other nations that lived in this land, the Lord made them run away. Yes, we will worship and obey the Lord, because the Lord is our God.
Joshua said:
The Lord is fearsome;
he is the one true God, and I dont think you are able to worship and obey him in the ways he demands. You would have to be completely faithful, and if you sin or rebel, he wont let you get away with it.
If you turn your backs on the Lord
and worship the gods of other nations, the Lord will turn against you. Roles verdict He will make terrible things happen to you and wipe you out, even though he had been good to you before. Joshua 24:14-20 During Passover the governor always freed a prisoner chosen by the people. At that time a well-known terrorist named Jesus Barabbas was in jail.
So when the crowd came together, Pilate asked them, Which prisoner do you want me to set free? Do you want Jesus Barabbas or Jesus who is called the Messiah? Pilate knew that the leaders had brought Jesus to him because they were jealous. While Pilate was judging the case,
his wife sent him a message.
It said, Dont have anything to do with that innocent man. I have had nightmares because of him. But the chief priests and the leaders convinced the crowds to ask for Barabbas to be set free and for Jesus to be killed. Roles verdict Pilate asked the crowd again, Which of these two men do you want me to set free? Barabbas! they replied. Pilate asked them, What am I to
do with Jesus, who is called the Messiah? They all yelled,
Nail him to a cross!
Pilate answered, But what crime has he done? Nail him to a cross! they yelled even louder. Matthew 27:15-23 Wisdom of Solomon, One day two women came to King Solomon, and one of them said: Your Majesty, this woman and I live in the same house. Not long ago my baby was born at home, and three days later her baby was born.
Nobody else was there with us. One night while we were all asleep, she rolled over on her baby, and he died. Then while I was still asleep, she got up and took my son out of my bed. Roles verdict She put him in her bed, then she put her dead baby next to me.
In the morning when I got up
to feed my son, I saw that he was dead. But when I looked at him in the light, I knew he wasnt my son. No! the other woman shouted. He was your son. My baby is alive! The dead baby is yours, the first woman yelled.
Mine is alive!
They argued back and forth in front of Solomon, until finally he said, Both of you say this live baby is yours.
Someone bring me a sword. A sword was brought, and Solomon ordered, Cut the baby in half! That way each of you can have part of him. Please dont kill my son, the babys mother screamed. Your Majesty, I love him very much, but give him to her. Just dont kill him.
The other woman shouted,
Go ahead and cut him in half. Roles verdict Then neither of us will have the baby. Solomon said, Dont kill the baby. Then he pointed to the first woman, She is his real mother. Give the baby to her. Everyone in Israel was amazed when they heard how Solomon had made his decision. Roles verdict They realized that God had given him wisdom to judge fairly. 1 Kings 3:16-28
Pilate said, Not guilty,
When the chief priests and the temple police saw him, they yelled, Nail him to a cross! Nail him to a cross! Pilate told them, You take him and nail him to a cross! I dont find him guilty of anything. John 19:6
