Roles Substitutionary Sacrifice
Roles substitutionary Some years later God decided to test Abraham, so he spoke to him. Abraham answered, Here I am, Lord. The Lord said, Go get Isaac, your only son,
the one you dearly love!
Take him to the land of Moriah, and I will show you a mountain where you must sacrifice him to me on the fires of an altar. So Abraham got up early the next morning and chopped wood for the fire. He put a saddle on his donkey and left with Isaac and two servants for the place where God had told him to go.
Three days later Abraham
looked off in the distance and saw the place. He told his servants, Stay here with the donkey, while my son and I go over there to worship. Roles substitutionary We will come back. Abraham put the wood on Isaacs shoulder, but he carried the hot coals and the knife.
As the two of them walked along, Isaac said, Father, we have the coals and the wood, but where is the lamb for the sacrifice? My son, Abraham answered, God will provide the lamb. The two of them walked on, and when they reached the place that God had told him about, Abraham built an altar and placed the wood on it.
Next, he tied up his son and put
him on the wood. Roles substitutionary He then took the knife and got ready to kill his son. But the Lords angel shouted from heaven, Abraham! Abraham! Here I am! he answered. Dont hurt the boy or harm him in any way! the angel said. Now I know that you truly obey God, because you were willing to offer him your only son. Abraham looked up and saw a ram
caught by its horns in the bushes. Roles substitutionary So he took the ram and sacrificed it in place of his son. Genesis 22:1-13
where your tribal leaders will lay their hands on its head, before having it killed in my presence.
The priest will take a bowl of the animals blood inside the sacred tent, dip a finger in the blood, and sprinkle some of it seven times toward the sacred chest behind the curtain. Then, in my presence, he must smear some of the blood on each of the four corners of the incense altar, before pouring out the rest at the foot of the bronze altar near the entrance to the tent.
After this, the priest will remove the fat from the bull and send it up in smoke on the altar. Finally, he will burn its remains outside the camp, just as he did with the other bull. By this sacrifice the sin of the whole nation will be forgiven. Leviticus 4:15-21
Payment for sin,
Our God has said: Encourage my people! Give them comfort. Speak kindly to Jerusalem and announce: Your slavery is past; your punishment is over. I, the Lord, made you pay double for your sins. Isaiah 40:1-2
He suffered and endured great pain for us, but we thought his suffering was punishment from God. He was wounded and crushed because of our sins; by taking our punishment, he made us completely well. Roles substitutionary All of us were like sheep that had wandered off. We had each gone our own way, but the Lord gave him the punishment we deserved. He was painfully abused, but he did not
complain. He was silent like a lamb being led to the butcher, as quiet as a sheep having its wool cut off.
He was condemned to death without a fair trial.
Who could have imagined what would happen to him? His life was taken away because of the sinful things my people had done. He wasnt dishonest or violent, but
he was buried in a tomb
of cruel and rich people. Roles substitutionary The Lord decided his servant would suffer as a sacrifice to take away the sin and guilt of others. Now the servant will live to see his own descendants. He did everything the Lord had planned. By suffering, the servant will learn the true meaning of obeying the Lord. Roles substitutionary Although he is innocent, he will take the punishment
for the sins of others, so that many of them will no longer be guilty. The Lord will reward him with honor and power for sacrificing his life. Others thought he was a sinner, but he suffered for our sins and asked God to forgive us. Isaiah 53:4-12
In the future there will be a fountain, where Davids descendants and the people of Jerusalem can wash away their sin and guilt. Zechariah 13:1
